Go "Analog" This Holiday Season in Paso Robles

This is the time of year to savor moments and make memories with loved ones. Check out this blog from our guest blogger, Shonna Howenstine, on some great family-friendly activities this holiday season:

If the New York Times is correct and our love affair with all things digital is over, then consider Paso Robles your family travel destination this holiday season. We were old-fashioned before it was cool.

This place thrives on human contact and features all sorts of holiday events to bring people of all ages together in fun ways. If you’ve never experienced a Rockwellian holiday season, throw the kids in the station wagon, set your GPS (or blow the dust off a Thomas guide) and point yourself to the Central Coast of sunny California for some seriously awesome analog adventures.

As a local to the area and one of the biggest fans around, I am thrilled to share some insider tips of a few of my top holiday activities in Paso to bring the family together.

Here are three don’t-miss holiday events in all their throwback glory:

Santa’s Holiday House
December 4 – 24, 2017
Hours Posted at Holiday House

Santa Claus will be visiting his Holiday House in the Downtown City Park this December. Bring the kids to sit on Santa’s lap for a traditional photo, and of course, to tell him what they want for Christmas! The holiday spirit isn’t just for kids—this classic holiday tradition is perfect whether you are a family of four or just a couple on a sweetheart’s retreat.

Special Insider Tip: Grab your favorite travel mug and swing into Spearhead Coffee for a warm treat while walking around the park. A cup of Joe, cider or hot chocolate is the perfect way to keep you warm from head to toe.

Festive Sweater Day at LXV Wine Lounge
December 16, 2017 | 12 – 7pm
LXV Wine Lounge

LXV Wine Lounge is a local favorite and is situated in the heart of Downtown Paso Robles. Grab your ugly holiday sweater and head downtown for an old-fashioned festive sweater party. Great wine will be available, of course. Grab your friends or significant other and head to LXV on Saturday, December 16, for a day of wine tasting and festive sweaters.

Special Insider Tip: Grab a late lunch or early dinner from one of the many tasty restaurants surrounding the downtown square. As you nosh away on flavors that dance across your tongue like sugar plum fairies, try to restrain yourself by saving some room for the great wine you will taste while at the lounge!

27th Annual Victorian Teddy Bear Tea
December 16, 2017 | 2 – 4pm
Paso Robles Park Ballroom

What better way to experience a traditional family holiday than with a teddy bear tea? The Paso Robles Inn hosts one of the best Victorian Teddy Bear Tea holiday events – that’s why it is on its 27th year. You and the family can bring your teddy bears for some special tea time with Santa, Mrs. Claus, Santa’s elves and the Snow Queen and King. If you want to go “analog” this holiday season, a Victorian Tea is the way to go.

Special Insider Tip: Take a trip to the great little boutiques and stores throughout Paso Robles for some great holiday shopping. Whether you are buying gifts for the kids, or treating yourself, you will definitely want to check out our artisan shops.

In the words of the New York Times’ David Sax: “Analog provides a richness of experience that is unparalleled with anything delivered through a screen.”

And to paraphrase Bing Crosby – Happy Holidays to you from beautiful, jolly, analog Paso Robles.
